About Synthmark
If you’re a fan of the 80s, cyberpunk or science fiction then this will be for you. The visuals are full on retrowave (80s inspired) and the stories are set in a world of tech, corporations and rogues.
The stories will be available on a number of social media platforms. But this website and the email newsletter will be the main place to find them. The newsletter will publish stories at least 2 weeks in advance of anywhere else and it will also have email exclusive stories and lore.
Get the first story – I am Judas Crook
The first story is available via email and it’s titled “I am Judas Crook”. Enter your email address and you’ll receive the story as soon as you’ve confirmed your email (this is so you don’t get signed up by accident). You can also unsubscribe at any time, without reason or hassle.
Judas is an interesting character in the Synthmark universe. I won’t say too much about him for fear of releasing a spoiler, but I hope you enjoy his first story.
If you don’t want to give your email address without first seeing some of the stories – No worries, ‘I am Judas Crook’ will be published live on this website on 17th January 2021 and I will post about it on social media.
What emails should you expect?
By joining the email newsletter you’ll receive new stories when they are published. I’ve also queued up a number of ‘behind the scenes’ emails to introduce you to the world of Synthmark, a little bit about me (the writer) and other interesting things.
The dream is to publish one story a week, but a more realistic target would be one a month. Life, children and perfectionism often get in the way. At the time of publishing this site there are 6 stories written and ready, plus a number of behind the scenes emails.
About the stories
Cyberpunk is a dystopian genre of science fiction, which generally focuses on low-life with high-tech. So many of the Synthmark stories will carry the dark, rundown dystopian theme, but this is cyberpunk fused with retrowave. That means there is a lot of brightness within the world.
Retrowave is a nostalgic homage to the sound and visuals of the 80s and early 90s. You may know it by the more popular term synthwave, which is the name of the music.
Synthmark is underpinned by the themes of love, hope and joy even in difficulty. Even when it feels like the world is too dark and lost, there is always hope and peace if you can find the source.
There will be a number of stories that are written for the fun of life and that point to those three themes. I also want to practice and improve my comedic writing, apologies now, but I will attempt writing comedy at some point.
